Platform Fee

Starting February 14th, 2025, Start.gg will be implementing a Platform Fee to fund the site's operation and the development of new features and improvements. You can learn more about why we're implementing the Platform Fee and our future development on our Balance Patch article.

The Platform Fee will be automatically applied to all online payments through PayPal or Stripe and will not include on-site / cash payments. The Platform Fee is calculated as 6% of the user’s subtotal, meaning it is not inclusive of other fees and does not subtract from what organizers receive.

Processing Fee

PayPal and Stripe charge a fee to process payments. Every time an attendee registers for a tournament, this fee will come out of the money organizers receive. To make up for this, organizers can choose to add a processing fee, and may also add other fees for things like sales tax or VAT. Processing fees can be configured on the Payment Setup tab of the Registration Settings page.

The processing fee does not go to Start.gg.

Stripe's processing fee is 2.9% plus $0.30 USD per transaction. PayPal's processing fee depends on the payment type used:

  • Normal PayPal, PayPal Fastlane, and Venmo transactions charge 3.49% plus $0.49 USD per transaction.

  • PayPal Pay Later charges 4.99% plus $0.49 USD per transaction. Pay Later can be toggled as an option on the Start.gg Payment Setup page.

  • Debit or Credit Card input charges 2.99% plus $0.49 USD per transaction.

Each fee will appear as a separate line item at checkout. Here is what the fee will look like when an attendee is registering with a 3% + $0.30 processing fee applied:
