Are you attending an upcoming online event on start.gg? Some online tournaments require you to check-in prior to the start of the event. This is a feature on start.gg that allows tournament organizers to DQ or fully remove any attendees from the bracket who do not check-in ahead of time in order to prevent the bracket from being held up.
If the tournament you've entered has this check-in feature enabled, here's what you'll see on the page, and what you need to do:
If the tournament you've entered has this check-in feature enabled, here's what you'll see on the page, and what you need to do:
Before Check-In Opens
24 hours before check-in opens, you will see a gray banner across the top of the tournament page that will let you know when check-in will start, and when it will end.
Check-in can open up to 2 hours and 15 minutes before the event, and can last for up to 2 hours. However, each tournament is different, so please check the dates and times carefully!
Once Check-In Opens
When check-in opens, you'll receive an email to the email address on your start.gg account letting you know that check-in is available. If you click the link in this email, it will take you to the tournament page where you can check in!
The banner on the tournament page will also change from gray to blue, and a countdown timer will appear letting you know how much time is left for check-in.
To check in, all you have to do is click the Check in button on the blue banner. The banner will change back to gray, and will have a message letting you know that your check-in was successful. All that's left to do is wait for everyone else to check-in, and for the bracket to start!
Please note: If registration for the event is still open during the check-in period, and you register while check-in is in progress, you will automatically be checked in and won't have to follow these steps.
Issues with Check-In
If you're having trouble checking in for an event (don't see the banner, getting an error message when trying to click "check-in", etc.) we recommend that you first contact the organizers to let them know you're available to play but having trouble checking in. That way, they can check you in manually and you won't be DQ'd or removed.
Contact info for organizers can be found on the tournament homepage under the Contact Info section.
Once you've reached out to the organizers, we recommend screenshotting any issues you ran into and gathering as many details as possible. Then, send an email to support@start.gg (or you can use the blue Intercom chat bubble if it's available) making sure to include any screenshots, GIFs, or details you have so that we can look into what may have gone wrong with the check-in process.
