You can now allow for paid registration for online events. This allows TO's to:

  • Collect a "venue fee" that goes towards the TO's/organization

  • Collect an "event fee" that goes towards the prize pool/pot

Note:

  • We currently only allow paid online events for our top 100 game titles. If your game is not approved you will receive this error message: "The title you have chosen has not yet been approved for paid online events. Please contact our Support team to make this request."

  • We will automatically set registration restrictions to meet our compliance guidelines for paid online events (this will block people from registering from locations that do not allow paid online tournaments, or if your current location does not allow for paid online)

If you set up event fees for online tournaments, please make sure to set up a payment option to collect the fees. You can find more info on setting up payment options in this article.

Paid Online Restrictions

The following is a list of activities that we absolutely do not support or condone. Organizers found practicing these things will be violating the start.gg Terms of Service.

You are NOT allowed to:

  • Run paid online events for games you would not normally run on start.gg, such as poker or coin flips. This change is intended only to support your current tournament format for games of skill in an online capacity.

  • Obfuscate or attempt to hide exactly what kind of tournament/event you are running.

  • Facilitate betting of ANY kind, whether through show matches, money matches, or the like.

  • Run paid online events outside of the United States.

  • Run paid online events for a community in a location, or with players who are located, where this is explicitly prohibited (AZ, AR, CT, DE, LA, MD, MT, SC and TN)

You ARE allowed to:

  • Collect a “venue fee” on the tournament to help pay for the costs of running an online tournament

  • Collect entry fees for events on your tournaments

  • Request a donation button on your tournament to fund any of the aforementioned use cases

  • Collect information from players for disbursing payments (you are still obligated to handle any tax implications)
