Setting Up Your Ladder

Last Update hace 2 meses
Ladders are a live matchmaking experience that allow players at an event to continuously queue against new opponents, similar to how open matchmaking commonly works for online games.
Players click a button on their phone (or other device) to queue up and find a match
Players report their match, earn points, and queue again
Players obtain different ranks based on points earned
This page will walk you through setting up a ladder event!
Adding a Ladder event to your tournament
A bracket phase should exist here for your event already.
If there is not one, or your ladder is a last minute addition, you can add a new event via Events in your Tournament Settings
2. Edit the phase's pool type to "Matchmaking" in Bracket Setup
Matchmaking is the pool type that enables settings for Ladders.
You can edit your Ladder settings, also know as "Matchmaking Settings," under Brackets in the Tournament Admin. This is explained more further in this artic

- If your event only needs a ladder, ignore this step!
- Add a new phase under the same event as your ladder (matchmaking) phase
- Once the new phase is added, add progressions to the initial matchmaking phase
- Select "Progressions" on your first phase
- Select how many players should advance out of the ladder
- Select the new phase you just created as the destination phase
Matchmaking Settings

Queue allows you to active and deactivate your ladder, which is important in allowing people to actually queue up and play!
Pairing lists settings affecting how people queue with each other in your ladder. It also adjusts additional settings such as the amount of time players have to check in.
Page controls settings affecting how your ladder appears to those on the public end of your tournament. Also, most importantly, it allows you to enable a Ladder Tab for your tournament, so that the queue and standings are easily accessible by entrants and spectators.
Ladder Registration Requirements
Participation Requirements: You can indicate how attendees may participate in the ladder.
Must Register for event - Participation is restricted only to attendees who are registered for the event itself.
All registered attendees - Any attendee registered for the tournament in general may participate in the ladder event. Not currently supported for Online events.
Pairing Settings
Rematch Avoidance is the amount of time between two players being paired for a second time.
- Suggested: 20
- Sets on Deck is the number of sets that get paired when all of your stations are full. If set to 0, when all of your stations are in use, no players will be paired. This is useful because it gets players at the ready to play their matches when stations open up.
- Suggested: 3
- Check-in Time
- When players pair, they are prompted to Check In. This tells the software they know of their pairing and are ready to play.
- This field sets the amount of time in minutes that someone has to Check In.
- If a player does not check in during this time period their pairing will be undone.
- If only one player checks in this player will be placed back at the top of the matchmaking queue.
- Suggested: 2
- Opponent Display Option controls at what stage of check-in players can view their opponent
- Immediately – an opponent will be displayed as soon as the two players match
- After check-in – an opponent will only be displayed after both parties have checked-in for their match (feature for the purpose of preventing queue dodging).
Starting Your Ladder
Click the Queue Enabled checkbox to open or close access to the ladder. Closing the ladder will not remove players currently in the queue
Queue Disabled Message is the text that will display to users on start.gg when the ladder is closed.
Page Settings and Ladder Tab Setup
- Page Title and Page Subtitle are the text fields at the top of your ladder page.
- Page Title Color and Page Subtitle Color control the color of the text.
- Header Background Color controls the background color behind the Title and Subtitle text.
- Ladder tab name is the field for the text that appears for your ladder tab, if enabled.
- Ladder tab enabled controls the display of the "Ladder tab" on your tournament page. This setting is highly recommended so event attendees can easily access the ladder queue.
- The remaining fields are text replacements that include Station Term, Check-in location, and Playing location. Unregistered message displays a message to users on Start.gg that are not signed up for your tournament.
- Text replacement examples include:
- Once a match is found, you will be assigned a <station> in the <friendlies setups>.
- Check-in and go to the <smash.gg Play Desk>!
- Go to the <smash.gg Play Desk>
- Wait for your opponent at the <smash.gg Play Desk>.
- Get your <Station> Assignment
- The staff at the <smash.gg Play Desk> will give you a <station> assignment.
- If you don’t show up to the <smash.gg Play Desk>, you will be DQ’d and lose a star.
- After playing, return to the <smash.gg Play Desk> and report your match.
